"The Price of the Pig" is an Irish double jig in 6/8 time and G Major/E minor.
The parts are played AABB.
"The Price of the Pig" is contained in the latter 19th century music manuscript collection
of fiddler Patrick O'Farrell, of Ballinamuck, County Longford. Researcher Conor Ward
finds cognate melodies in the James Goodman manuscript as "The Dougarry Boys" and in
Books 3 and 5 of County Leitrim piper and fiddler Stephen Grier's c. 1883 music
manuscript as an untitled jig.
One version of a double jig known as "King of the Pipers"
(different from the one in this collection) is a similar tune.
The similarly-titled "The Price of My Pig" is a different tune.
I found this on-line but have not yet tracked down a printed reference.
